On the opening day of the Smopyc 2008 in Zaragoza, Spain, Dr. h.c. Dipl.-Ing. (ETH) Willi Liebherr welcomed the heir to the Spanish throne and his wife to the Liebherr stand. Prince Felipe of Spain and his wife Doña Letizia were particularly interested in the current situation of the Spanish construction machinery market. Willi Liebherr emphasised the traditional importance of this market for the Group and mentioned the Spanish production site for Liebherr tower cranes in Pamplona.

The royal couple were impressed by the size of the Liebherr stand and the wide range of exhibits at the Smopyc. In their capacity as Prince and Princess of Asturias, Don Felipe and Doña Letizia were especially pleased that the largest Liebherr machine on show in Zaragoza, the nine-axle LTM 11200 all-terrain crane, was to be delivered to a customer in Asturias.

The Liebherr Group was represented at the Smopyc 2008 with a redesigned and much bigger stand. On an area of 6,000 m², Liebherr exhibited 37 construction machines, thus showing visitors a comprehensive cross section of its current range of products.

The list of exhibits included six wheeled excavators, five crawler excavators, five wheel loaders, three crawler tractors, a crawler loader, a telescopic handler, a drilling rig, a mobile construction crane, three mobile cranes, four tower cranes, four truck mixers and three machines for mixing and recycling.
