Bauma 2007: new R 964 C SHD crawler excavator
At Bauma 2007, Liebherr will present a new R 964 C crawler excavator in the SHD bottom-dump bucket variant designed for mining. This especially robust version has an operational weight of 76.4 t. This machine’s special configuration includes the basic machine with 14.5 t of ballast weight, increased operator cab height and a bottom-dump bucket with wear protection capable of holding 4.5 m3 at a specific material weight of 1.8 t/m3. Special protective devices, such as piston protection or slewing gear protection, are available as optional extras ex works.

The bucket format ensures that it penetrates well into the material and can be filled to capacity. The tried-and-tested parallel linkage system developed by Liebherr supports the bucket guide and delivers precision and even forward motion. This provides the R 964 C SHD with a forward thrust of up to 500 kN / 51.0 t and a shearing force of up to 370 kN / 37.7 t. Its maximum reach on a plane surface is 8.75 m, its maximum dumping height is 7.4 m and its maximum forward thrust path measures 3.66 m.

The R 964 C is powered by a new Liebherr V8 diesel engine with common-rail injection system and turbocharger with charge air cooling. This unit belongs to the latest generation of Liebherr diesel engines, corresponding to the requirements of Stage III / Tier III. It has proved possible to increase the performance of the eight-cylinder engine in comparison with its predecessor – the R 964 B – by 13%, making it 320 kW / 434 hp at 1,800 rpm. Also, the new crawler excavator is fitted with a fully automatic central lubrication system as standard.
