Liebherr will deliver huge umbrellas for the Pilgrimage place in Saudi-Arabia
In the years 2008 and 2009 Liebherr will deliver a total sum of 182 huge umbrellas Type 26 MD for shading the Holy Mosque in Madinah (Saudi-Arabia). An appropriate contract was signed between Liebherr Intertrading AG, Bulle (Switzerland) and Saudi Binladin Group, Jeddah (Saudi Arabia).
Each of the 15m high umbrellas covers an area of about 650 sq.m. and offers about 800 Pilgrims protection against sun and heat. The umbrellas, 45 tons heavy, which have a gilded finial and crown are opened by an electric driven and electronic controlled steel structure. The membrane consists of ornamental Teflon fabric and the umbrella arms are encased by strengthened fibreglass tessellated. Four high-quality lamps, a mast cladding of granite plates and a water misting unit for cooling the surrounding of the umbrellas complete the equipment
A central controlling and observation system is installed for opening and closing of the 182 umbrellas. In closed status the umbrellas look like small minarets and that is why they perfectly match with the architectural design of the Holy Mosque
