Bauma 2007: new wheel loader series
At Bauma 2007, Liebherr will present a completely new series of medium-sized wheel loaders to the world public. The highly successful models previously supplied in this size class, the L 524, L 534 and L 538, will be replaced by the four new models, of type L 524 2plus1, L 528 2plus1, L 538 2plus1 and L 542 2plus1. The market launch of these new wheel loaders coincides with the introduction of the tougher Level III / Tier III emissions and noise standards for construction machinery engines.

Improvements to the previous machine concept were central to the new development, with the aim of achieving even greater productivity for the wheel loaders in everyday operation. In comparison with predecessor models, the new wheel loaders make their mark through higher machine performance, even better operating comfort and additional safety features. The heart of the previous series, the tried-and-tested Liebherr drive system, has been retained. With the innovative 2plus1 technology, it has proved possible to improve the drive concept still further. As a result, the wheel loaders now reach a higher final speed of up to 40 km/h and benefit from even greater fuel consumption reduction on longer journeys.

One core component is the new diesel engine. With the Level III / Tier III emissions and noise standards in mind, the Liebherr competence centre for engine development and manufacturing in Switzerland developed a new generation of diesel engine. These engines will be used in the two larger models, the L 538 2plus1 and the L 542 2plus1. The two smaller models, the L 524 2plus1 and L 528 2plus1, are equipped with John Deere engines, which have also been redeveloped for Level III / Tier III.
