Chilean President drives Liebherr Mining Truck

President Sebastián Piñera of Chile accompanied by Chile’s Mining Minister, Mr. Laurence Golborne Riveros, visited two of the country’s largest copper mines: Chuquicamata and Radomiro Tomic. During a four-day trip, the delegation inaugurated a new processing facility which includes a crushing plant and a conveyor system connected to the mines. This new transportation system is an important milestone in the history of mining, as it significantly accelerates the transportation process by 50%.

The President took the opportunity, under the eyes of the entire leadership of the Codelco, to drive a Liebherr T 282 B mining truck. An eyewitness reported that the President was very impressed by the powerful truck and stated that it is an incredible machine, easier to drive than expected.

The mines of Chuquicamata and Radomiro Tomic are some of the largest open pit copper mines in the world. Belonging to the state-owned mining company Codelco Chile, the mines support Codelco’s activities as the world’s largest copper producer and controller of approximately 20% of the global reserves of this metal.
